In the lead up to the official opening of Build Eco Xpo (BEX) Asia 2011, key industry players in the sustainable green building landscape from both Indonesia and Singapore today came together to discuss developments in green building methodologies.
In its 4th edition, BEX Asia 2011 – to be held in Singapore from 14-16 September at the Suntec Convention Centre – is the region’s leading exhibition focusing on green building architecture, design, products, practices and technologies for environmental sustainability. Over 90% of this year’s 230 international and regional exhibitors and companies will be exclusively showcasing sustainable building technologies for a Greener Future. This is a 15% increase over 2010’s 200 exhibitors.
Major players confirmed include Carrier, Daiken Johnson Control, Lafarge, Legrand, Lutron, Onna Prima, ParexDavco, Philips, Trane and Toshiba, among many others. BEX Asia will also present five country pavilions and featured for the first time are countries like, Malaysia, Canada and Australia in addition to the Singapore and Taiwan pavilions.
The three-day event is staged alongside the International Green Building Conference (IGBC) 2011, which aims to build on its previous success by continuing to focus on hot topics such as tropical architecture and green building case studies, under the Themed "Build Green. Act Now." In addition, it will examine new topics with emphasis on sustainable construction, buildings of the future as well as sustainable operations and maintenance.
Ms. Louise Chua, Project Director for BEX Asia 2011, presented a special preview of the exhibition, to media at the Le Meridien, Jakarta, while also emphasising new additions as well as key elements from partners operating in Indonesia.
“BEX Asia as a business platform has grown exponentially over the past four years. It has become the key go-to event for the region’s Build Green community, to congregate and exchange knowledge of creating a greener and sustainable future. Industry players can source from suppliers from some 30 countries this year. Some of the environmentally-friendly materials and products that increase energy efficiency that a buyer can find at BEX Asia 2011 are building materials, measurement systems, aircon systems and interior decorative materials, amongst others. Industry players can also learn more about green certified products and projects in the BCA and SGBC Pavilions which are also two new features at BEX Asia this year. Additionally, we have invited two key architects from Austria and Australia to share their experiences on climate change and how it is affecting the current green landscape in the region and globally”, said Ms. Chua
“Additionally with more concerns on climate change, reduction of carbon emission and sustainable/renewable environment for the future, the building and construction industry can look forward to discussions on creating a sustainable environment with green buildings, the challenges and opportunities on retro-fitting existing buildings as well as materials and technologies for tropical countries like ours.”
Further supplementing this, Eddy Susilo, Country Director (Indonesia) for the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore, shared invaluable insights to the various green initiatives that Singapore has employed and achieved, that have also contributed in some manner to the overall region.
Eddy Susilo also shared details of the International Green Building Conference (IGBC) 2011: “With this year’s IGBC 2011 theme being ‘Build Green. Act Now’, we want to showcase Singapore’s efforts, through initiatives such as our BCA Green Mark and our involvement in the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) focusing on ‘Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative’. BCA has also been actively working with our regional partners in creating a more sustainable building environment in Southeast Asia. It is important that we have platforms such as IGBC 2011 and BEX Asia 2011 to further spread the green building message to key industry players and relevant government bodies, locally, regionally and internationally.”
Adding a local perspective on the matter was Rana Yusuf Nasir, one of the core founders of the Green Building Council Indonesia, who talked about the current state of Indonesia’s green building industry, recent developments towards green indicators within Indonesia and how far it has come.
Rana Yusuf Nasir also spoke on the importance of moving towards a more sustainable building philosophy. He further stressed on the importance of exchanging ideas and discussions among regional green building councils, moving towards environmental green marking. This, in turn, will help pave the way for best practices from which Indonesia will stand to benefit, environmentally and economically.
Carrier and Legrand, exhibitors at BEX Asia 2011 in Singapore, also spoke at the media briefing session on current green technologies present, to help cope with energy efficiency for building constructions and home use.
Tjahjadi, of PT Sarana Aircon Utama (the exclusive distributor for Carrier in Indonesia) spoke on Carriers’ contributions to sustainable building performance. This, through recently launched products like their revolutionary Evergreen® 23XRV high-efficiency VFD tri-roctor screw chiller. The chiller provides for an innovative green commercial air-conditioning solution through high energy efficiency and low operational cost.
Tjahjadi reiterated Carrier’s commitment to providing of a more sustainable greener future, in both new construction and existing buildings. He further cited Carrier’s AdvanTE³ Solutions Center, as having a dedicated team of experts catered to the research and development of green air-conditioning systems.
Legrand’s Indonesian representative, Hery Saputra, touched on Legrand’s commitment to providing complete green sustainable solutions through its electrical installations and data networks for businesses and home. Highlighting on Legrand’s Lighting Management System (LMS), Hery further explained on how, compared to normal lighting management systems, Legrand’s LMS allows for the consumption of less energy through its in-built meter system, with an occupancy sensor.
Hery Saputra also stressed on the importance of Legrand’s participation on a platform like BEX Asia 2011.This to share and discuss, among other businesses and industry partners, on the various green building solutions present in the region.
