The History of IPM Public Relations
IPM Public Relations was established in 1985 but the story began much earlier. It was in 1980 that Maria Wongsonagoro established the Business Centre at the Jakarta Hilton Hotel which she owned and operated after over eight years working as a professional in various companies. The Business Centre provided services such as administrative and secretarial support, translations, interpreting, personnel placements, administrative support for international seminars and conferences and other assistance.
Understanding that she would not be able to work on her own, Maria began seeking friends and colleagues who will be able to support her on the new venture. In 1985, IPM Public Relations was founded by Maria Wongsonagoro, Edowati Sudjono and Leny Tanod, the three musketeers as most called this group of ladies.
The strengths of the three people complement each other. Maria Wongsonagoro, having lived overseas with the parents in diplomatic postings for many years, is fluent in English. She was assigned in 1983 to the English News Channel of TVRI, the state television network, as television journalist and feature producer. She acquired a vast number of colleagues and acquaintances through her work thereby strengthening her networking circle. It is her English language ability and journalism background that strengthened the new agency.
As the establishment of IPM Public Relations in 1985 was also prompted by big companies who were seeking public relations support, the beginning of the fledgling agency got off to a smooth start and IPM Public Relations continued to acquire prominent clients throughout the years.
