This training, which will be provided directly by Al Gore is organized by The Climate Project Indonesia together with its partners

Jakarta, 8 January 2011 – Former US Vice President and 2007 Peace Nobel Prize Laureate, The Honorable Al Gore, visited Indonesia to provide training at The Climate Project Asia Pacific Summit, from 8-10 January 2011. The training in handling and solutions for the effects of climate changes will be provided for 300 participants from Indonesia and 15 other countries from the Asia Pacific region. This program is organized by The Climate Project Indonesia, a non-profit organization consisting of volunteers from various backgrounds who are fully dedicated to overcoming the climate crisis, and who were directly trained by Al Gore. TCP Indonesia is one of the 9 TCPs in Australia, Canada, India, Mexico, Spain, England, America, and China.

For Al Gore, this will be his first climate change training in Indonesia. Previously, in the Asia Pacific region, Al Gore had conducted training in Melbourne, Beijing, and New Delhi. This training will be conducted by Al Gore, together with international and national climate change experts, and also communications experts.

Amanda Katili Niode, PhD, Manager The Climate Project Indonesia (TCPI) said, “TCPI is making an effort to increase public awareness about climate changes through communicating science, the effects and solutions for climate changes towards low carbon development in Indonesia. Through this training it is hoped that understanding about the effects and efforts to overcome climate changes could be spread further through the individuals selected to participate in this training.”
Executive Chairman of the National Council on Climate Changes, who is also the President of the Republic of Indonesia’s special Envoy for Control of Climate Changes, Rahmat Witoelar said, "Climate changes are real, and have indeed been felt by all Indonesian people. Efforts to curb climate changes and alleviate the effects it causes are made at international level, but in reality, the most concrete actions are actually in the hands of each individual member of society. Therefore, I very much support and welcome these training activities conducted by TCPI. Similar activities should be conducted continuously, so the public’s understanding and concrete role in this effort can be optimized."

Dr. Dipo Alam, Cabinet Secretary, stated the importance of the effort to increase public awareness about prevention and adaptation to climate changes. Furthermore, Dipo Alam said, “The Government’s commitment to realizing fair and sustainable development is conducted through the implementation of four development approaches, namely eradication of poverty, creation of employment opportunities, economic growth, and conservation of the environment. Then, these four development priorities are translated in various work programs which need the active participation of all elements of society, including youth groups, non government organizations, scientists, and businessmen.”
Joseph Bataona, Director of Unilever Indonesia said, “Unilever has supported this program since it was held for the first time in Melbourne, then Nashville, and now in Jakarta. This is one of the realizations of our commitment towards the environmental program, through sharing knowledge and experiences with The Honorable Al Gore and also Indonesian experts and scientists by cooperating with the public as partners to join as agents of change, helping to overcome climate changes. Unilever hopes the 300 people who have participated in this training will not just share their knowledge with their peers, but concretely become driving forces towards behavioral changes which are more environmentally friendly in their communities, starting with themselves. Starting with small steps, to make big changes together. Joseph added, the 9 people from Unilever who have been selected to participate in the training, are ready to spread TCPI materials to Unilever communities, from environmental cadres, internal employees, to third parties. This training increases our role as part of a concrete movement to overcome climate changes and global warming
Ichiro Suganuma, President Director of PT Panasonic Gobel Indonesia stated that Panasonic Gobel Indonesia as producer of environmentally friendly electronic products very much supports the organization of this training on ‘Climate Change Handling’. Through this training, Panasonic Gobel Indonesia hopes the comprehensive knowledge and ideas on protecting and saving the environment (eco ideas) provided to all participants could be spread in the 15 countries and have a Snowball Effect on actions to save the environment throughout the world. Continuing to focus on maintaining the environment in conducting business is Panasonic’s commitment to ‘eco ideas’, which they will continue to implement to become the No 1 Green Innovation Company in the electronics industry in 2018. Let us save the earth and its inhabitants and nature for a better future.
Putu Bagus Kresna, Director of Compliance at PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk said, “Since its birth in 1946, BNI has acted as agent of development, including its contribution to sustainable development in Indonesia. BNI’s role as business entity is implemented with reference to the Triple Bottom Line (3P) paradigm, through a business strategy which is not only orientated towards financial gains (Profit), but is also committed to support nature conservation (Planet), and empowering the community (People). It is hoped that BNI’s support for climate change handling programs, particularly those coordinated by TCPI with the support of Al Gore’s TCP can educate the participants to take concrete action in climate change mitigation and adaptation, and most importantly, that the knowledge they obtained will have a multiplier effect on the environment and the community.”
